LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - Three defense officials spoke to the Daily Beast, who reported that the Obama administration has refused to allow a U.S. military plan to assault ISIS's regional hub in Libya to commence.
Obama's reason to stave off what could prove to be a crucial attack is based on the fact that Libya is currently governed by two rival governments.
Until Libya falls into one group's hands, the Obama administration refuses to intervene.
During a press conference Tuesday at this year's summit of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, Obama stated further military interference could create more difficulties in Libya's political situation.
Despite Obama's claim to attack ISIS "anywhere it appeared," a statement released on the White House website has Obama saying: "We will continue to take actions where we've got a clear operation and a clear target in mind. And we are working with our other coalition partners to make sure that as we see opportunities to prevent ISIS from digging in, in Libya, we take them.
"At the same time, we're working diligently with the United Nations to try to get a government in place in Libya. And that's been a problem."
The political reasons for wanting one governing body in Libya are obviously more important than exterminating ISIS scum to America's president, who only just announced he believes being the President is a "serious job," adding, "a lot of people count on us getting it right."One way to "get it right," Mr. President, is to follow through with what you say you will do. Like attack ISIS like the sitting ducks they currently are.
"There is little to no appetite for [attacking] in this administration," one defense official explained.
"There's nothing close to happening in terms of a major military operation. It will continue to be strikes like the kind we saw in November against Abu Nabil," another official disclosed.
U.S. military numbers show ISIS fighters have gone from 1,000 members in Libya last year to 5,000 in just a few months.
Defense officials believe the sudden increase is due to increasing difficulties in traveling to either Iraq or Syria as security has tightened.
