LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA (Catholic Online) - Fifteen special force soldiers from the United States elite Delta Force had to cancel two raids on ISIS fighter Abu Sayyaf's home, first due to guidance issues, then by severe weather.

On their third attempt, the team was able to shoot the ISIS official -who controlled the group's oil operation- down and arrest Umm, his wife.

The Special Air Service joined the U.S. operation to kill or capture ISIS leaders in May and mimicked the uniforms and carried weapons used by Delta Force soldiers and Navy SEALs.

They flew in V-22 Osprey aircraft and used hi-res cameras fitted with telescopic lenses. After taking several detailed photos of enemy fighters, their weapons and their behavior, they confirmed Sayyaf's presence and began the assault.

At roughly 2 a.m. U.S. aircraft destroyed ISIS fighters and a building containing rockets and armed machine guns.

An unnamed 18-year-old Yazidi girl had been held hostage and was alone when the attack commenced.

When the air assault ended, ground troops took down extremists who kept guard outside Sayyaf's home and took down two more guards standing just outside the entrance of the home.

As the ground troops fought their way through the compound, SAS personnel prevented the escape of ISIS militants.

The Yazidi girl described the silence following the air attack and the appearance of Abu and Umm Sayyaf, who tried to take her with them. When the U.S. troops entered the room, Abu reached for a pistol and the soldiers shot him twice in the chest.

One soldier asked the girl who she was and she told them she spent six to seven months as a slave in Mosul, Iraq before she was sold to Abu Sayyaf. She admitted, "I am a Yazidi girl who has been captured."

As soon as the girl admitted who she was, Umm claimed, "I am also a Yazidi."

The girl told troops Umm was lying and informed them of her true identity. Umm was handcuffed and "closed her eyes and mouth."

Several laptops and cell phones were discovered as well as intelligence on the oil-smuggling operation that brought quite a bit of income to ISIS.

After fighting their way back to Black Hawk helicopters, the troops took the Yazidi teen to a U.S. airbase in Erbil, where she was taken to a doctor and received a medical exam following treatment for injuries following several beatings by Sayyaf.
