LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA (Catholic Online) - The poisonings took place in Enjil, where the deputy governor Aseeluddin Jami told CNN the incidents were deliberate.
Over 300 girls from nine to 18-years-old were sent to the hospital after breathing in toxic gas.
140 female students were gassed, and two days later the same school suffered 70 more cases.
September 3rd sent another 115 students to the hospital after a different school reported students succumbing to toxic gases.
Though there is no direct evidence, authorities believe the Islamist group was responsible for the attacks since women were banned from schools and the workplace under Taliban rule from 1996 to 2001.
Girls have also been attacked with acid in the past when they attempted to attend school. Schools have also been burned down by Taliban militants.
The Taliban were also responsible for poisonings that occurred 6 years ago in north-eastern Afghanistan.
Authorities continue to search for the responsible party.
