Dear readers, Catholic Online was de-platformed by Shopify for our pro-life beliefs. They shut down our Catholic Online, Catholic Online School, Prayer Candles, and Catholic Online Learning Resources essential faith tools serving over 1.4 million students and millions of families worldwide. Our founders, now in their 70's, just gave their entire life savings to protect this mission. But fewer than 2% of readers donate. If everyone gave just $5, the cost of a coffee, we could rebuild stronger and keep Catholic education free for all. Stand with us in faith. Thank you.Help Now >

LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - As sirens wailed across the country, the silence was echoing. Playgrounds, road traffic and beaches all came to a complete stop for the two-minute tribute. April 16 marks the 70th anniversary of the day Nazi death camps were liberated.
The Holocaust is something no one, especially the Jewish community can forget.
According to Daily Mail, radio and television stations broadcasted only programs about the genocide and played only sombre music. Places of entertainment were closed for the day.
Stop NOW -- Save a Christian from genocide!
"The Anguish of Liberation and the Return to Life: 70 Years Since the End of World War II" was the theme for this year's observance to help deal with the pressing issue of survivors' pain and "the challenge of rebuilding shattered lives."
25 percent of the 189,000 survivors living in Israel today still struggle financially.
"As the Nazis sought to stamp out civilization and to set the master race to rule across the earth... while wiping out the Jewish people, so does Iran seek to control the region, spread outwards and destroy the Jewish state," explained Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, comparing Hitler's Nazi to current Iran.
"Has the world really learned from the incomprehensible universal and Jewish tragedy of the previous century?" he asked. "Democratic governments made a momentous mistake before World War II and we, along with many of our neighbors, are convinced that a bitter mistake has also been made now."
