Humanitarian aid worker, Kayla Mueller joins the list of lost American ISIS hostages.

The last known American ISIS hostage is reported dead. 26-year-old Kayla Mueller's family has confirmed her death four days after ISIS claimed she had been in a building hit by a Jordanian airstrike.

LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - Mueller, working as a humanitarian aid worker, was captured in Syria in August 2013. Following the filmed horrific death of the Jordanian pilot, Jordan vowed to take down ISIS. They immediately began hitting the militants' targets in Syria.

Mueller was held captive near Raqqa, Syria. Earlier last week, ISIS claimed she had been buried in the destruction of a hit building.

"No matter how long it takes, the United States will find and bring to justice the terrorists who are responsible for Kayla's captivity and death," President Barack Obama said in a statement.

According to Daily Mail, Mueller's family received an email from ISIS, including a photo of Mueller's body.

U.S. officials confirmed the family "had received a message from the aid worker's captors with information the American authorities were able to authenticate," according to NBC News.

"We are heartbroken to share that we've received confirmation that Kayla Jean Mueller, has lost her life," Mueller's family said in a statement. "Kayla was a compassionate and devoted humanitarian. She dedicated the whole of her young life to helping those in need of freedom, justice and peace."

Mueller now joins James Foley, Steven Sotloff and Abdul-Rahman Kassig in ISIS' list of stolen American hostage lives.
