LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - A video has been distributed by the Islamic State which shows the beheaded body of journalist Kenji Goto, and has been released just one week after another video, which showed Goto holding a photo of the headless corpse of his countryman, Haruna Yukawa.
Act now, please help save fellow Christians from genocide!
This 67-second video was released by the Islamic States' media group, Al Furqan Media.
"We are deeply saddened by this despicable and horrendous act of terrorism, and we denounce it in the strongest terms," said Japan's prime minister, Shinzo Abe. "To the terrorists, we will never, ever forgive them for this act."
Following this statement, the United Nations Security Council issued a statement in which they denounced Goto's "heinous and cowardly murder."
"This crime is, yet again, a tragic reminder of the increasing dangers journalists and others face every day in Syria. It also once again demonstrates the brutality of [the Islamic State], which is responsible for thousands of abuses against the Syrian and Iraqi people," the statement continued.
President Barack Obama also issued a denouncement against the "barbaric act."
"We applaud Japan's steadfast commitment to advancing peace and prosperity in the Middle East and globally, including its generous assistance for innocent people affected by the conflicts in the region."
Constitutionally forbidden from engaging in wars of foreign soils, Japan has not directly aided in the military campaigns against the Islamic State. However, Japan has provided millions of dollars in humanitarian aid throughout the Middle East, especially in areas hard hit by the Islamic State.
Despite these brutal murders, Japan has announced that they will not halt their humanitarian aid.
"We would like to expand our support for refugees," said Yoshihide Suga, the chief cabinet secretary. "We are surely going to have necessary support in terms of not yielding to terrorism."
