LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - A group affiliated with al-Qaeda has threatened that they will kill a 33-year-old photojournalist, Luke Somers, who was abducted in the capital of Yemen in September of 2013.
Act now, please help save fellow Christians from genocide!
A video was posted on YouTube on December 3, where Somers appeared with an al-Qaeda official.
With a shaved head, Somers said he was born in England, and has American citizenship and has lived in the United States for most of his life. In the video he said he was certain that his "life is in danger."
The al-Qaeda official in the video was identified as Nasser bin Ali al-Ansi, and he swore that Somers would meet with "inevitable fate" if the U.S. did not agree to demands made.
"It's now been well over a year since I've been kidnapped in Sanaa (the capital of Yemen)," Somers said. "Basically, I'm looking for any help that can get me out of this situation. I'm certain that my life is in danger. So as I sit here now, I ask, if anything can be done, please let it be done. Thank you very much."
Yemeni military and U.S. Special Operations forces had attempted to rescue Somers last week, but by that time he had already been moved to another location, although eight hostages had been freed during the U.S.-led raid.
Five others who were supposed to be rescued had also been moved earlier, including another American citizen and a Briton.
During the video, the al-Qaeda operative criticized the U.S.'s continued airstrikes against the Islamic State, and President Obama for the "failed" attempt to rescue Somers.
He also warned the U.S. against any more attempts to rescue captured Americans.
