LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - While arresting the wife of the leader of the most dangerous terrorist group in the world, a group that has rampaged across Iraq and Syria for the better part of a year, may not seem like a major victory, an anonymous source said that she is a "powerful figure heavily involved in (the Islamic State)."
Act now, please help save fellow Christians from genocide!
Californian Representative Adam Schiff (D.) believes her capture may lead to insight into the Islamic State and perhaps help the United States and her allies capture or kill al-Baghdadi.
"We will gain some intelligence from her," he said. "We may get insights into al-Baghdadi's movement, who he surrounds himself with, whether he was injured, and the degree of his injuries."
Another anonymous source said that the captured woman is named Saja al-Dulaimi, and reported that she, along with her 4-year-old son, was captured in late November when she tried to enter Lebanon.
The same source said that the capture was a multi-national effort involving Iraq, Syria, and Lebanon, aided by U.S. intelligence.
The Islamic State's leader has been calling for the release of his son and one report suggests that the woman who was picked up may actually be an ex-wife of al-Baghdadi.
"If she's simply an ex-wife, the first thing you got to deal with is she's an innocent person, potentially, who was married to a bad guy," said a former counter-terrorism official with the CIA, Philip Mudd.
"The first hurdle...before we deal with what she knows, is how closely was she affiliated, and how hard can you press her based on that affiliation. That's an ethical question."
