President Obama will urge the United Nations Security Council to adopt a resolution that would ban individuals from flying if they are attempting to become jihadists, and impose sanctions on countries that fail to seriously treat the growing problem of international jihadism.

LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - The president is pushing for the resolution as part of his growing strategy to fight the Islamic State, which has been recruiting individuals from Europe, the United States and Australia to fight in Iraq and Syria.
If you stand by and let it happen, how can you say you oppose genocide?
The Islamic State is going to be one of the key issues for world leaders who gather in New York for the U.N.'s General Assembly.
"Together, we will address the horrendous violence in Syria and Iraq, where conflict and governance failures have provided a breeding ground for extremist groups," said Ban Ki-moon, the U.N. Secretary-General.
Currently, the international presence to the rise of the Islamic State has been no more than a loose coalition of nations attempting to figure out a strategy going forward.
Ki-moon hopes that the meeting will propel the international community to agree upon a course of action to deal with the Islamic State.
Currently, U.S. intelligence officials estimate that the Islamic State may have 31,000 fighters in Syria and Iraq; 12,000 of which are foreigners.
A resolution which is expected to be adopted by the 15-nation council would require all countries to prevent their citizens from being recruited and transported to Syria or Iraq to fight for the world's largest and most wealthy terrorist group.
The resolution would also require all 193 U.N. nations to ensure that their laws and regulations punish nationals who travel, or attempt to travel, to another country to perform or plan acts of terrorism.
Currently, the Islamic State controls territory that stretches from northern Syria-near the border with Turkey-to the outskirts of Baghdad.
