40 Killed in Gaza from Israeli Tank Fire

WASHINGTON (Catholic Online) - Fighting continued today in the Gaza Strip where Israeli tank fire killed approximately 40 Palestinians and left dozens more wounded.
According to reports from two hospitals in Gaza, the victims were among the hundred who had sought refuge at a United Nations School. Two tank shells exploded outside the building, penetrating the structure with shrapnel.
An earlier air strike near another U.N. school left approximately 12 dead.
While Israel has not commented on this recent report, earlier it has accused Hamas of using schools, mosques, and homes as cover for military operations. Palestinian reports have indicated that the schools were being used as shelters for those displaced during the fighting.
More than 500 hundred people have died since the conflict began 11 days ago.
