 El Papa Francisco nombro a los sacerdotes William J. Muhm y Joseph L. Coffey como nuevos obispos auxiliares de la Arquidiocesis de Servicios Militares en Estados Unidos.

VATICANO (ACI Prensa) - Sobre estos nombramientos, el Arzobispo Militar de Estados Unidos, Mons. Timothy Broglio, agradecio al Santo Padre y recordo que esta jurisdiccion sirve a 1.8 millones de fieles. "Me alegra que ambos hayan aceptado servir de esta forma. Traen consigo una vasta experiencia y una profunda solicitud pastoral a su nuevo cargo", dijo el Prelado.

Mons. Broglio consagrara como obispos a ambos sacerdotes el proximo 25 de marzo, dia en que la Iglesia suele celebrar la fiesta de la Anunciacion del Senor.

Mons. William J. Muhm nacio el 27 de junio de 1957 en Billings, estado de Montana. Estudio en la Colorado State University en Fort Collins.

Estudio luego en el St. Joseph's Seminary en Yonkers, estado de Nueva York. Fue ordenado sacerdote el 13 de mayo de 1995 en la St. Patrick's Cathedral en Nueva York.

Ha desempenado, entre otros, los siguientes cargos: vicario parroquial de la St. Ann Parish en Ossining y en la parroquia Holy Family en Sten Island. Entre 1998 y 2018 desempeno su ministerio como capellan militar en la United States Navy, donde habia llevado a cabo su servicio militar antes de la ordenacion.

Cuando termino su ministerio como capellan militar en 2018, se despidio con el rango de capitan. En el mismo ano, participo en un curso de formacion en el Instituto para la Educacion Teologica en el Pontificio Colegio Norteamericano en Roma.

Era hasta ahora Administrador Parroquial de la Parroquia Most Precious Blood en Walden, Nueva York.

"Estoy muy honrado por haber sido elegido por Nuestro Senor Jesucristo y el Santo Padre para ser un obispo de la Iglesia universal y un obispo auxiliar de la Arquidiocesis de Servicios Militares, que ofrece su ministerio catolico y servicios espirituales a estadounidenses muy importantes", dijo Mons. Muhm sobre su nombramiento.

De otro lado, Mons. Joseph L. Coffey nacio el 31 de mayo de 1960 en Minnesota. En 1982 asistio a La Salle University de Filadelfia después de un curso de seis meses en la Universidad La Sorbona de Paris.

Entre 1995 y 2002 estudio en el St. Charles Borromeo Seminary de Filadelfia. Fue ordenado sacerdote el 18 de mayo de 1996.

Ha desempenado, entre otros, los siguientes cargos: vicario parroquial de la parroquia St. Katherine of Siena, director espiritual de la Legion de Maria, capellan militar de la United States Naval Reserve y miembro del consejo presbiteral de la Arquidiocesis de Filadelfia. Desde 2001 entro en servicio como capellan militar de la U.S. Navy, donde tiene el rango de capitan.

Sobre su designacion, Mons. Coffey agradecio al Papa Francisco y a "mis tres pastores de la Arquidiocesis de Filadelfia, los cardenales Anthony Bevilacqua y Justin Rigali, asi como al Arzobispo Charles Chaput, quienes me dieron la oportunidad de servir como capellan en la US Navy los ultimos 17 anos".
