El Papa Francisco se implica en la paz entre Etiopia y Eritrea

 El Papa Francisco recibio el lunes 21 de enero al Primer Ministro de la Republica Democratica Federal de Etiopia, Abiy Ahmed Ali.

VATICANO (ACI Prensa) - En la reunion ha tenido un especial protagonismo la situacion del Cuerno de africa y, en concreto, las relaciones diplomaticas recientemente reestablecidas con Eritrea, pais con el que Etiopia ha mantenido un cruento conflicto armado entre 1998 y 2000.

El primer ministro etiope y el Papa tambien hablaron de la solucion pacifica de los conflictos que asolan a la region del Cuerno de africa y del necesario desarrollo socio-economico. Abiy Ahmed Ali tambien trato de estos asuntos con el Secretario de Estado del Vaticano, Cardenal Pietro Parolin; y con el Subsecretario para las Relaciones con los Estados, Mons. Antoine Camilleri, con quienes se reunio sucesivamente.

En un comunicado difundido por la Sala de Prensa de la Santa Sede se destaco que "en el curso de los cordiales encuentros se ha evidenciado las buenas relaciones existentes entre la Santa Sede y Etiopia. A continuacion, se han tratado importantes iniciativas en curso para la promocion de la reconciliacion nacional, asi como para el desarrollo integral del pais".

"En ese contexto, se ha subrayado el papel del cristianismo en la historia del pueblo etiope y se ha puesto en valor la contribucion de las instituciones catolicas en el ambito educativo y sanitario".

Finalizado el encuentro, el primer ministro regalo al Papa unas telas tipicas de Etiopia y una pintura que representa a Cristo Resucitado. 

Asimismo, el Santo Padre regalo al mandatario etiope un medallon de un artista del pasado siglo con una referencia a la profecia de Isaias.

El Papa tambien le hizo entrega del texto del Mensaje de la Jornada Mundial de la Paz de 2019 y cuatro documentos pontificios: Evangelii gaudium, Laudato si , Gaudate et exultate, y Amoris laetitia.
