LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - Echeverria was on the London Bridge during the tragic terror attack earlier this year. Wielding only a skateboard, Echeverria protected a woman from one of the attackers.
Echeverria lost his life as a result of his heroic act.
According to Guillermo Sanchez, who was with Echeverria during the attack, Echeverria was defending a woman being assaulted. Within "microseconds" Echeverria fell to the ground and didn't get back up, Sanchez explained to the Guardian.
Echeverria was awarded the Grand Cross of the Order of Civil Merit. Spain's Minister of the Interior, Juan Ignacio Zoido attended the award ceremony for Echeverria and described his act as "heroism, courage and dedication" that affected both Spain and Britain.
A friend of Echeverria's told La Razon, a Spanish newspaper, that he always stood up for those in need.
Echeverria will always be remembered for his brave heroic act that saved a woman's life during a most terrifying moment.
