LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - An ambulance carrying a pregnant woman was on its way to the Magadan regional hospital when it slid on ice into oncoming traffic.
It swerved across the road, into the next lane going in the opposite direction. It was almost completely across the street, but its rear was struck by a black vehicle.
The back doors of the ambulance tore open, spreading debris everywhere and the vehicle flipped onto its side.
As the ambulance skidded into a snowbank, a pregnant woman was thrown from the back of the emergency vehicle. Her legs were in the air as she landed face-first on the frozen ground.
The car with the dashcam swerved to miss hitting her and quickly pulled over. What happened next was not recorded.
The accident occurred on January 26 at about four miles from the hospital. When the dashcam video came back in, the sky was significantly darker, and emergency responders were helping the woman and the driver of the black Nissan Cedric to different ambulances.
There was no explanation for the delay in help, but there was a report the pregnant woman was forced to wait at least 30 minutes before she was helped.
Luckily, witnesses helped the unidentified woman, who had left her home in slippers.
Amazingly, neither the woman nor her unborn child was seriously injured. Doctors reported she and her child escaped the threat of a premature birth or lasting injuries.
The 21-year-old driver of the Nissan was hospitalized, but there have been no reports of his condition, nor of the condition of the ambulance driver.
