Queen Elizabeth was diagnosed with a cold during Christmas this year.

UPDATE: Queen Elizabeth has made her first public appearance since falling ill Christmas weekend.

The Monarch awarded a Lieutenant of the Royal Victorian Order (LVO) to Ray Wheaton for his services to the Royal Family and Royal household and sent the President of Turkey a message of condolence after receiving news of the New Year's Day attack that resulted in 39 deaths.

Many well-wishers asking about their Queen's health were finally satisfied when Princess Anne happily reported the monarch was on the mend.

LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - Prayers for Queen Elizabeth II have been streaming in after a heartbreaking message hit Twitter.

The following message was posted to Twitter from a fake BBC news account: "BREAKING: Buckingham Palace announces the death of Queen Elizabeth II at the age of 90. Circumstances are unknown. More to follow."

The account was quickly brought down but several witnesses believed it was factual information removed from the social media site so the news could be officially reported the following morning.

Queen Elizabeth was absent during the annual Christmas Day church service at Sandringham in Norfolk for the very first time. Prince Philip also missed the service that day for the first time in nearly thirty years.

A Buckingham Palace spokesman announced the Queen was suffering a "heavy cold" but was expected to "participate in the Royal Family Christmas celebrations during the day."
