LOS ANGELES, CA (California Network) - Tunisian-born terrorist, Mohammed Lahouaiej Boulhel, 31, has killed 84 people and injured 65 others in a sadistic attack on Bastille Day celebrations in Nice, France.

The attack was carried out using a rented delivery truck. Boulhel drove the truck thorough a packed crowd of people watching fireworks.

His path of destruction stretched over a mile, and he intentionally swerved several times to hit more people. Victims, including children, were indiscriminately run down. Eyewitnesses said some people were sent flying, others were stuck in the wheels of the truck.

Some witnesses said Boulhel fired from the cab of the truck as he drove. He was heavily armed with an assault rifle, a pistol and a grenade.

Police managed to surround his vehicle and exchanged gunfire with him. He continued firing until he was hit by an officer's bullet. Witnesses said he screamed in pain before being killed by police who did not stop firing until they were certain he was dead.

In the aftermath of the attack, it has become known that Boulhel had been previously arrested for violent offenses, but he was not identified as a national security risk. He was married with three children, but going through a divorce.

On the evening of his rampage, police spotted him in his truck, and asked his business. He informed them he was delivering ice cream for the festivities. Tragically, the police did not notice the truck had no refrigeration unit. This one simple observation could have halted this attack before it began.

Two Americans are among the dead.

President Francois Hollande cut short a trip to Avignon, and addressed the nation, vowing to hit ISIS even harder.

France will now spend three days in mourning.
