LOS ANGELES, CA (California Network) - A taxi driver could have to pay his passengers, after he struck one of them during an altercation.
According to the Austrian media, a Muslim taxi driver picked up two men, 37 and 27 years of age, and began taking them to their requested destination. During the ride, the two men began kissing in the back of the taxi.
The driver asked the men to stop, but they refused. The driver eventually stated, "people like you should be shot dead." This proclamation caused the men to exit the vehicle. When the driver demanded payment, the men refused. The driver called police who attempted to resolve the situation, however an altercation developed and the driver punched the younger man in the face, causing his lip to swell.
Police declined to file any charges against any of the men, but the injured man is allegedly contemplating filing charges against the driver.
It should be understood that taxi cabs are not private spaces, and modesty and respect demand that people should keep their hands to themselves in such places, particularly after being asked. To persist in an offensive behavior, especially after being asked to stop, is inviting upset and discord. Now, a taxi driver must concern himself with courts and fines, because his faith was deliberately assaulted in a public space.
