LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - At the moment, Germany struggles to deal with an unprecidented influx of about 800,000 immigrants this year, which includes asylum seekers and economic migrants leaving wars in Africa and the Middle East.

Aside from the population boom, Germany continues to struggle with the costs and practicalities of having to look after hundreds of thousands of people, which is equates to nearly one percent of Germany's population. Some have expressed concern about how the migrants will integrate into society.
Chairman of the center-left Social Democrats, Sigmar Gabriel, said the refugees were welcome but they are required to at least attempt to fit in.
Gabriel, who was interviewed for newspaper, Bild Daily, stated, "People who come here must not only learn the German language, but also learn the rules of the game of living together."
10,000 copies of Germany's constitution were printed and will be distributing them to refugees at registration centers. Gabriel is convinced the first 20 articles of their constitution is what will shape their futures.
Germany's Basic Law had been adopted in 1949, mapping out the principles that underpin the legal system and division of power and authority between central government and 16 regional states.

Gabriel said, "No one is forced when he comes to Germany, to change his religion, to alter his private life. But what is important for our culture is that the principles of our democratic society apply to everyone."
Anti-Semitism is not tolerated in Germany, Gabriel said. He also noted that the migrants had to accept the country's principles such as freedom of expression, equal rights for men and women, division of church and the state and the right to be homosexual.
