Remains believed to be over 1,000 years old.

The discovery of an ancient burial beneath a medieval tree is one of the oddest and interesting occurrences Ireland has seen in a while. Part of a young man's skeleton was found underneath the 215-year-old beech tree in an Irish town and is currently under analysis. According to The Blaze, the remains belong to a man who lived over one-thousand years ago.

MUNTINLUPA, PHILIPPINES (Catholic Online) - Sligo-Leitrim Archaeological Services, a newly founded organization, made their first discovery after a winter storm in the town of Collooney, located in Sligo County.

The Archaeological group posted on Facebook that the storm uprooted more than just the root system of the medieval beech tree, it also unearthed part of a thousand-year-old human skeleton. Part of the remains were covered in dirt and tangled in the tree's roots while the rest of the skeleton remained on the ground.
Fox News reported the lower leg bones remained on the ground, but the femora of the upper leg was broken when the intricate root system broke off.
"As excavations go, this was certainly an unusual situation. This burial gives us an insight into the life and tragic death of a young man in medieval Sligo," said Dr. Marion Dowd, director of SLAS.

According to The Blaze, initial analysis states the remains belonged to a 17 to 20-year-old man who suffered a violent death between the 1030 AD and 1200 AD, based on results of radiocarbon dating. SLAS said the man was considered tall for his time at around 5-foot 10 inches and he  suffered some injuries.
Dowd told the Iris Times, "We don't know if he was killed in a battle or if this was a personal dispute ...  We have stab wounds in the upper chest and they were inflicted by a knife -we also have a stab wound in the left hand, which suggests trying to defend himself."
She also stated whoever planted the tree had no idea there was a body buried beneath it. SLAS said the man was given a Christian burial, but there were no other skeletons found in the area.
