Los croatas han aprobado este domingo en refer茅ndum con un 66 por ciento de respaldo incluir en su Constituci贸n la definici贸n de matrimonio como uni贸n de un hombre y una mujer, aunque varios partidos del pa铆s se han expresado en contra de la iniciativa.

ZAGREB (ACI/Europa Press) - Los datos oficiales preliminares difundidos en la noche del domingo ratifican la clara victoria del grupo cat贸lico En Nombre de la Familia, impulsor de la propuesta. La participaci贸n ha sido de un 37 por ciento.

En Nombre de la Familia reuni贸 m谩s de 740.000 firmas para promover esta iniciativa popular de reforma de la Constituci贸n y oblig贸 as铆 al Parlamento a aprobar la convocatoria del refer茅ndum a pesar de que los partidos de centro-izquierda que respaldan al Gobierno se han mostrado contrarios a la propuesta.

Sin embargo, el resultado de la consulta no es ninguna sorpresa teniendo en cuenta la incorporaci贸n del catolicismo m谩s conservador como elemento de la identidad nacional croata. El 90 por ciento de los 4,4 millones de croatas se declaran cat贸licos.

Con esta reforma, el matrimonio no podr谩 ser legislado por ley, sino que deber谩 haber una mayor铆a parlamentaria de dos tercios de la c谩mara para modificar la Constituci贸n.

"Estoy contenta porque, a partir de ahora, ning煤n gobierno podr谩 legalizar el matrimonio homosexual", ha explicado la l铆der de En Nombre de la Familia, Zeljka Markic.

Una bailarina, Sanja Grgic, ha argumentado que no est谩 "en contra de los gays", "pero he votado a favor porque pienso que los hijos deber铆an crecer en una familia que tenga una madre y una familia".

Con la reforma, Croacia se asimila a pa铆ses como Bielorrusia, Polonia, Moldavia, Bulgaria, Montenegro y Serbia, donde tambi茅n tiene nivel constitucional la definici贸n del matrimonio como uni贸n de hombre y mujer.
