LOS ANGELES, CA (California Network) - President Duterte is meeting with Chinese officials to discuss cooperation in the region. "There is no sense fighting over a body of water," Duterte was quoted as saying in an interview with the state-run Xinhua News Agency.

Duterte is leading a delegation that includes 400 business representatives and others who will forge new political and business ties with Chinese counterparts. The visit is scheduled to last until Friday.

President Duterte has at the same time criticized Obama and other leaders who have behaved hypocritically towards the Philippine people. This has caused concern, particularly in the U.S., that Duterte could abandon the old alliance between the USA and the Philippines in favor of a new relationship with China.

The greatest detriment to improving relations with the Philippines is attitude. Some American politicians regard President Duterte as less than the freely-elected leader of the Philippine people because they disagree with his style of leadership. However, his leadership is not for the world to judge.

How can the United States criticize President Duterte when it is also guilty of similar offenses? Has the Philippines issues condemnation of American legal practices? Does President Duterte question the legitimacy of American leadership? No. )6838 *1 50*59?)

President Duterte is democratically elected. He is the concern of the people. If they disagree with his policies, then it is up to them to resolve the problem. President Duterte answers to his people and to God. He does not answer to Obama or anyone else.

President Obama owes President Duterte and the Philippine people respect. How they manage their nation, fight crime and with whom they do business is entirely their affair. If we want to improve relations with the Philippines, then we need to improve the way we treat their president and people. Only a spirit of cooperation and mutual respect will produce the close alliance that the United States has taken for granted.

It's time to give the people their due.
