LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - Gang rape videos lasting anywhere from 30-seonds to 5-minutes are being sold on the streets of India, according to the Times of India.
The prices are based on the "exclusivity" of the clips and can cost anywhere from 50 to 150 rupees.
One shopkeeper said the deals are all "under the counter" and dealers will only discuss sales with trusted customers and their references.
"Porn is passe," the shopkeeper explained."These real life crimes are the rage. Dealers will download videos directly into your smart phone or put them in your pen drive...It is a matter of time before they go viral."
The rapists record their crime to their phones to use as blackmail to bully the victims from reporting the crime, or to pressure them into more sexual acts.
A senior officer explained: "A threat to post the rape online is very potent. In the past we have conducted raids at Tajganj and Sadar areas and arrested one for selling explicit videos and pirated films. We will continue to raid such places."
Unfortunately, the increase in violent and sexual crime in India has paved a very difficult path for authorities to follow. There are so many crimes that authorities have admitted it would be next to impossible to get the situation under control.
Ajay Sharma, a deputy inspector general of police in Arga, India, believes the under-the-counter sales make it even harder to find the criminals but stated, "We are taking necessary action."
Horrible gang-rape incidents continue to increase, with a woman and her 14-year-old daughter dragged from their vehicle and raped for hours in a nearby field at gunpoint occurring only last week.
One video revealed a young woman being raped as her boyfriend was beaten. Knowing the video could be used to blackmail her, she was heard begging for them to "at least [not] record."
Uttar Pradesh, the most unsafe city for women in all of India, continues to report sexual violence, including an incident of a teacher being abducted in broad daylight from a national highway.
The incidents continue to rise and the Indian government has yet to implement a working plan to put an end to the violence.
