LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - According to Mirror, the footage, filmed in the Philippines, shows seven minutes of a young woman going through the different phases of an exorcism.
According to other reports, people from the woman's culture believe she was not possessed by a demon spirit, but rather a "duende," a "mythological creature from Philippine folklore."
"Duendes" (or Dwendes) are tiny little goblins or elves residing underground, in small caves, in old trees, in ant hills or even dark parts of houses. According to the tales, they can bring either good or bad luck to the people who meet them and often "play with children."
The unidentified woman in the video is shown mumbling and screaming with a shocked facial expression as her eyes roll to the back of her head. She begins to speak in a strange deep voice as a man begins the "exorcism."
The same man reappears and covers the woman in liquid, thought to be Holy Water, according to the Mirror. The woman is then seen howling out in pain.
While there are some who believe the woman was indeed possessed by a duende, many non-believers doubt the actual credibility of the video.
