LOS ANGELES, CA (California Network) - A Chinese man decided to fish on the Yangtze river. The decision turned out to be unlucky because a torrential rain caused the river to swell. The river rose so quickly, he was unable to escape.
The unlucky fisherman found a pair of rocks and balanced himself on them, hoping for rescue as the fast-flowing river rose.
Local residents and fire personnel soon arrived to attempt a rescue. Racing against time, a hastily organized rescue team manged to use a zip line to send a life jacket and inflatable ring to the imperiled fisherman.
Once the shivering fisherman, clad only in a pair of shorts, had donned the jacket and ring the rescuers began pulling together to draw the man across the river.
After a few tense minutes of exhausting effort, they succeed with cheers.
The rescue shows the best humanity has to offer on full display. Various people were able to coordinate and work together, managing their improvised resources to effect a rescue. Without their effort, the fisherman would have likely perished.
