India's blistering heat continues: Roadways are MELTING under the sun

Everyone is still advised to stay indoors.

Forecasters issued a warning that the extreme heat beating down on India will continue to get worse. About 1,100 people have already died from the killer heatwave, which had gone up to 45 degrees Celsius. Reports come that the road surfaces are actually melting because of the very high temperatures.

MUNTINLUPA, PHILIPPINES (Catholic Online) - Daily Mail has reported that Southern India was hit the worse, with people unable to leave their homes. Most victims of the extremely hot weather are construction workers and the homeless who don't have a shelter to protect them from the blistering heat.

Volunteers give out cold drinks to those stuck in traffic; sugarcane juice stalls remain most construction workers' choice of beverage to quench their thirst under the sun.

Because of the poor condition of India's power transmission lines and the industry itself, the country is struggling even more, in order to meet the needs of their people for power.

Power cuts in the city of Gurgaon reach up to 10 hours per day.

"Nothing is working - even after taking half a dozen baths a day, you can't beat the heat. We try to spend more time indoors to avoid heatstroke. It's worse than previous years -- we hardly get any electricity and the air conditioners become useless," said Manish Singh of Gurgaon.

"Maximum temperatures won't fall substantially. However, major relief can be expected from June 2 as there are indications of good showers," said Brahma Prakash Yadav, director of the Indian Meteorological Department.

The official explained that the temperature will remain at 45 degrees Celsius, the national benchmark for a heatwave, according to the Daily Mail.

The killer heatwave is being traced from the "northwesterly dry and hot winds from the desert state of Rajasthan".
