We are pleased to report that the Archdiocese has responded and, in fact, I was mistaken concerning their participation in this error.

SYDNEY, Australia (Catholic Online) - On February 24, 2010 we published an article I wrote entitled "Homosexual Equivalency Activism Masquerading as Compassion." The main emphasis was placed on the danger currently facing the Church by those who seek to give a legal and moral equivalency to homosexual practice by calling for the acceptance of the oxymoron of "gay marriage". Sadly, this effort has found its way even into some of our Catholic parishes. As the author of the article, I mentioned a piece I had read on an international blog concerning St Joseph's Parish in Newtown, Australia. The piece indicated that the parish hosted what is called a 'Gay Mass' and that the it was sponsored by a group called 'Acceptance' Sydney. I also reported, as I had read in the article, that the Archdiocese of Sydney's website advertised the Mass time. We are pleased to report that the Archdiocese has responded and, in fact, I was mistaken concerning their participation in this error. Here is the letter which we received from Ms. Katrina Lee. I apologize for passing on what was erroneous information. On the heels of my friend Dr. Deal Hudson returning from Australia with such high praise for the Archdiocese and its good Bishop, I wanted to publish this response right away for our global readers: ************** To the Editor,
Deacon Keith Fournier´s opinion piece "Homosexual Equivalency Masquerading as Compassion" (2/24/2010) makes several claims about a parish Mass in the Archdiocese of Sydney which require correction.
The actual situation is as follows. On Friday nights there is a parish Mass. It is not sponsored or run by Acceptance. There is no teaching contrary to Catholic doctrine at this Mass. The sacrament of penance is available. Obviously any person is welcome to attend and pray at any Mass.
Many of the photos circulating in discussions of this Mass are not from the Newtown church or this Friday Mass, but from an earlier Mass at another Church - which has now stopped.
It should not need to be explained that the Archdiocese of Sydney is not responsible for what is on the Acceptance website. Any advertisement for any "gay mass" is unacceptable on the archdiocesan website. This was withdrawn long ago.
If your columnist should ever require assistance in checking the facts about any story on the Archdiocese of Sydney, they only need to contact us.
Thank you for your time,
Sincerely,
Katrina Lee
