BEIJING (Catholic Online) - Shawn Johnson has delighted the world with a smile that captures hearts and gymnastics skills unlike many in the entire world.
She has now claimed three medals for the United States in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, the most recent of which came in the individual floor finals. With her all around and team medals she is now a part of Olympics and gymnastic history.
After coming in first place in the Olympics trials in June, Shawn has captured the attention of the world with her athletic prowess.
Shawn is not like many of her peers in this competition.
She does not have a private tutor for school. She does not train 40 hours a week. Instead, she goes to public High School and trains for 20-25 hours.Shawn lives with her parents at home in West Des Moines, Iowa, USA.
She has become a favorite in the eyes of America, appearing on the Ellen DeGeneres Show and the Today Show. She was also named ABC's Person of the Week. She was even nominated for the 2008 Teen Choice Awards.
Yet, Shawn Johnson stays focused on family and diligently committed to her beloved gymnastics.
