A recent survey conducted by market researcher CID Gallup of Costa Rica, commissioned by Nicaraguan media outlet Confidencial, has shed light on the credibility of various institutions in Nicaragua. Despite facing severe persecution from the dictatorship of President Daniel Ortega and Vice President Rosario Murillo for several years, the Catholic Church emerged as the most credible institution in the country.

According to the survey, 48% of respondents considered the Catholic Church to be the most credible institution, while the credibility of the Ortega presidency stood at a mere 26%.
In terms of public opinion on notable figures, former presidential candidate Félix Maradiaga enjoyed the highest favorable rating with 48%, closely followed by journalist and activist Cristiana Chamorro Barrios with 43%. It is worth mentioning that Maradiaga had been imprisoned by the Ortega regime and was later deported, currently residing in the United States along with 221 other political prisoners.
When asked about the level of corruption in the past six months, a significant 56% of respondents believed it had increased, while 23% felt it remained unchanged. Only 13% of the participants thought that corruption had decreased during that period.
Notably, the latest Corruption Perception Index (CPI) released by Transparency International ranked Nicaragua as the most corrupt country in Central America and the third most corrupt in Latin America, surpassed only by Venezuela and Haiti.
In terms of public sentiment towards the Ortega regime, 61% of respondents disapproved of its work, while 29% approved. A further 10% either did not know or chose not to respond.
The survey was conducted between June 14 and 20 and involved 823 participants. The margin of error was estimated to be plus or minus 2.93%, with a confidence level of 95%.
