LOS ANGELES, CA (California Network) - There is a mysterious "pinging" noise coming from the Arctic sea floor in the Fury and Hecla Strait in Canada. The region is normally rich in wildlife, but this year it was virtually abandoned by nature.

Those who have heard the sound describe it as a "hum" or "beep." The Canadian military has been asked to investigate. The sound has continued for several months.

There is no evidence yet to favor one explanation over another. Submarines have been suggested, but the military says this is unlikely.

Several observers have noticed the distinct lack of wildlife and some have suggested Greenpeace could have placed a noisemaking device somewhere to scare away animals. Doing so would prevent hunting by humans, which is common during the summer. Greenpeace has denied the allegation.

Others have blamed the Baffinland Iron Mines Corporation because they have conducted sonar scans in the area before, but the company stated they have no active operations in the area at this time.

For now, the noise is just another one of many strange phenomenon around the planet where people can hear unexplained noises. Hums and other sounds can mysteriously appear and disappear without any apparent cause. Some people seem to be more attuned to these sounds and can hear them in a lot of places.

Often, the sounds have understandable origins, such as the sound of factories carried an exceptionally long distance, or the noises made by mating fish. The Windsor Hum is one such example, caused by a factory. But in other cases, these sounds have very mysterious origins that science is yet to discover.

The Canadian military will investigate the beeping and chances are good if something man-made is causing the sound, they will find it.
