LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - Former president Fernández de Kirchner has been accused of money laundering and embezzling funds.
Fernández de Kirchner is believed to have transferred hundreds of millions of dollars through offshore Panama, Belize and Seyschelles companies to a Swiss bank account.
Though nothing is concrete as of yet, the former president was "imputed" by federal prosecutor Guillermo Marijuán on Saturday.
In Argentina, if the prosecutor believes there is enough evidence to launch a full-scale investigation that has a high probability of resulting in charges, a judge can decide whether to allow the investigation to commence or continue.
Leonardo Farińa, a former associate of Fernández and her frontman,Lázaro Báez, testified for 12 hours and, in a plea bargain, implicated Fernández and her late husband Nestor Kirchner in a case involving money laundering and embezzling funds meant to be used for public works.
Farińa testified against Farińa and Báez, which led to the investigation.
Fernández is already set to appear in court on Wednesday for a different case that claims she was allegedly involved in a scheme that led to a peso inflation.
According to Reuters, a spokesman for the justice ministry announce comments for ongoing cases will not be forthcoming from the Argentinian government.
