LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - Mexican President Enrique Peńa Nieto announced Friday on Twitter, "Mission Accomplished: We have him."
Guzmán, who escaped a Mexican maximum-security prison through an underground tunnel in July and previously escaped another prison by simply hiding in a laundry cart, is a known escape artist and is an extremely powerful drug lord.
The Mexican Navy stated marines acted on a tip and stormed into a house in Los Mochis before dawn Friday morning. People from inside the home fired on the marines and a firestorm ensued, leaving five dead suspects and six arrests.
El Chapo runs the multibillion-dollar Sinaloa drug cartel, which is responsible for the deaths of thousands of Mexicans, including authorities and innocent civilians.
In 2014, Mexican officials saw his capture as a sign they were winning the drug war, but whether they can keep hold of him this time remains to be seen.---
