The Pope still finds time to participate in political issues in Argentina,

Pope Francis' cunning personality has forged ties with global powers and has managed to sway political leaders on tough issues, like those involving Cuba and Syria.

LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - The Pope's charismatic and canny personality not only appeared to sway President Barack Obama's view on Cuba and Syria, it also seems to have prevented the premature departure of his one time nemesis, President Cristina Fernandez, in his homeland Argentina.

The busy pontiff somehow found time to put a foot in the political situation in Argentina. According to a close personal friend of the pope, Francis intervened, with force, to prevent the president of his homeland from being deposed in a "soft coup." The events occurred after the mysterious death of a prosecutor who mentioned the Argentine President's involvement in conspiracy charges.

Initial reports of local magnates trying to oust the president after the murder of Alberto Nisman almost ousted Fernadez. Nisman was found with a gunshot wound in his head before he due to testify on an alleged top-level cover-up of Iran's suspected involvement in the 1994 bombing of a Jewish community center in Buenos Aires.

However, Pope Francis persuaded "the right people at the right moment" to let Hernandez serve her second term that is set to expire on December 10, according to Gustavo Vera, a Buenos Aires legislator and close friend of former Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio.

Fear that the ousting of the president might bring large devaluations to the country's currency, something that will greatly affect the poor, the pope intervened.

"Francis intervened strongly so that the constitutional continuity [would] be respected, Vera stated.

Monsignor Guillermo Karcher, Vatican protocol official, would not comment on the details of the pope's January intervention  with the events in Argentina.

Pope Francis has never shied himself away from local politics; he even met with the controversial Kentucky clerk Kim Davis during his visit in the United States. The Pope still respects secular institutions, but does not interfere in the affairs of the sovereign nations.

However, Francis has shown the strongest involvement in his native land though he has yet to visit the nation since his selection as pope two years ago.

According to Vera, Pope Francis has given the Argentine President a lesson in humanity. Despite the harsh rhetoric and confrontational style the president had, the Pope was there to give a "merciful" stand for the leader.
