Explorers discover missing city rumored to be the home of Honduran 'Monkey God'

Archaeologists have finally found the main subject of legends and folklore about "monkey children," a "monkey god" and a "massive source of gold." The city that was left mysteriously by an unidentified civilization hundreds of years ago has been rediscovered in the far insides of a Honduran jungle.

Former British SAS soldiers, Steve Sullivan and Andrew Wood, accompanied a team of Honduran and American archaeologists in a quest they were "passionate in pursuing."

After several years of searching, they are now able to present their amazing discovery of the "Lost City" to the world.

The "White City" is what the archaeologists are naming their discovery. The "Lost City," also called the "City of the Monkey God," has been the subject of immense search since the Spanish came to explore and exploit the Honduras.

There were believed to be other lost cities in the vast jungle of Mosquitia in Honduras, a region that is still very foreign to most archaeologists, where swamps, rivers and mountains sweep the area.

The 'White City' was exceptional with its popularity in local folklore and myths. Unfortunately, the city has been found to be in ruins.

National Geographic, the one who aided the archaeologists, unveiled the discovery to the world. They provided a photographer and a writer to step onto the site and document the expedition with the discoverers.

According to National Geographic, the city was in a riverside - a characteristic found to be the most common with the other ancient civilizations, such as that in the Euphrates. It was in a crater-like valley surrounded by high mountains.

A survey conducted by a team, using a helicopter with a ground-penetrating radar equipment, discovered there is a massive architecture underground.

National Geographic reported there were mounds, earthworks and a pyramid made of hard soil found by the experts. There are also several sculptures found to be untouched for several hundreds of years now.

The explorers were able to document their amazing discoveries, while leaving the area untouched.

The rediscovery of the "Lost City" will open new doors for the current civilization. According to the lead archaeologist, Christopher Fisher, "there is still so much to know about our world today."

"These discoveries," he said, "can give us knowledge on how we could preserve our culture and civilization now."
