LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - A detonated bomb exploded on the unsuspecting and innocent worshipers. Any survivors from the explosion who tried to escape were taken down by gun fire while the exits were blocked by burnt vehicles.

Some witnesses claim there were militants wearing suicide belts also among the crowd.

"This heinous act, which reflects the inhumanity of its perpetrators, will not pass without a firm and once-for-all punishment," stated Egypt's President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi

This tragic and terrifying occurance is now being called Egypt's worst terrorist attack in its modern history.

"The army and police will avenge our martyrs and return security and stability with force in the coming short period," expressed President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi during a high-level meeting with security.

"What is happening is an attempt to stop us from our efforts in the fight against terrorism, to destroy our efforts to stop the terrible criminal plan that aims to destroy what is left of our region."

Although there has been no immediate claim to responsibility for the deadly attack, it is suspected to be the work of the Islamic State and Islamist extremists.

The attacked mosque is reportedly a known location for gathering of Sufis and the Islamic State shares an open disgust for the group of Muslims, calling them "heretics for seeking the intercession of saints."

The Egyptian security forces have struggled for years against Islamic State affiliates.

Prayers and mourning for those loss have flooded in from all over the world.

U.S. President Trump took to twitter stating, "Horrible and cowardly terrorist attack on innocent and defensless worshipers in Egypt. The world cannot tolerate terrorism, we must defeat them militarily and discredit the extremist ideology that forms the basis of their existence!"

Britain's ambassador to Egypt, John Casson, also tweeted, "I am disgusted by the evil attack that killed & injured so many Egyptians in Sinai today. On behalf of the UK my deep condolences to all involved.

"These attacks on people praying in mosques & churches only strengthen our determination to stand together, & defeat terrorism & hate."

Egyptian forces are expected to carry out immediate air strikes targeting any Islamic extremists near the mosque.

Please join us in prayer to stand up against this growing evil. We must pray for protection for all who come across the work of the devil.
