LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - More than 13,000 Christian churches have been abandoned or destroyed in Nigeria. At least 1.3 million Christians have been forced to flee for their lives. And over 11,500 Christians have been killed, all because Islam is on the march in Christian Nigeria.
Since 2006, Muslims have expanded from their ancestral territory in northern Nigeria into the center of the country which is firmly Christian. The Muslims are conquering these regions by force, coercing Christians to flee their homes and churches. Those who do not escape are killed.
The report was delivered to the United Nations by Bishop Joseph Bagobiri, who is the Bishop of Kafachan in Nigeria. Most of the Christians in Nigeria are Catholic.
Christian persecution continues to rise around the world as the planet is gripped by a new wave of militant Islam.
