P>SIRTE, Libya (Catholic Online) - Reliable news sources have confirmed what the National Transitional Council announced at a News Conference held on Thursday morning, October 20, 2011, Libyan Strong man Ruler Muammar Gadhafi is dead.
The initial, unconfirmed reports indicated he was captured near Sirte, his hometown, after a skirmish between troops loyal to him and the anti-Gaddafi forces associated with the Resistance.
Initially, the resistance fighters reported that the man called the "mad dog of Libya" had suffered wounds in both of his legs during the firefight as he sought to flee the battle.
Soon, the reports evolved, indicating that Gadhafi was also shot in the head. Finally, the confirmation came that he had died from the wounds. Exactly how he was shot in the head is still unexplained.
The dead and bloodied body of the man so many Libyans feared is now appearing before the whole world on every media source. The gruesome photos and video clips of this dead man seem to be multiplying.
Many Libyans are rejoicing in the streets around their war torn Nation. They sincerely hope that the death of Gadhafi will help to hasten a free Libya.
Crowds gathered in Tripoli and Benghazi, firing guns, honking car horns and shouting "God is Great, God is Great, Gadhafi has been captured."
Many observers of the "Arab Spring" remain deeply concerned about the future of Libya.
