LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - According to the Telegraph, a set of twins with different fathers were born to a Vietnamese woman.

The extremely rare occurrence is possible if two eggs are fertilized by two different men during separate sexual encounters within the same ovulation period.

The twins, who are now 2-years-old, were born on the same day and are the same sex, but one has thick wavy hair and the other has thin straight hair, Daily Mail reported.

Professor Le Dinh Luong, the president of the Genetic Association of Vietnam, told Vietnamese Tuoi Tre newspaper, "Our Centre for Genetic Analysis and Technology lab has tested and found a pair of bi-paternal twins."

Luong stated this was the first case of bi-paternal twins reported in Vietnam and, until recently, there have only been seven such cases ever recorded.

The last case occurred in 2009 in America, when Mia Washington admitted she was having an affair when she became pregnant with her bi-paternal twins.

"I have twins, but they're by different fathers," Washington told Fox News

"Out of all people in America and of all people in the world, it had to happen to me. I'm very shocked."
