'The only thing I can think of is: I can't save my own son. Why not save someone else's.'

After losing her 7-month-old son, Lukas, Heather Clark was able to hear his heart beating once again - from the chest of a 4-year-old girl.

LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - In a heartbreaking tale, Clark's son, Lukas, fell prey to his babysitter's abusive boyfriend in his Rancho Cucamonga, California home. Three days after the attack, little Lukas passed away at Loma Linda hospital.

Clark told KSAZ-TV, Lukas "was just so outgoing. He was just a little ham. If there was a camera in front of him, he was either smiling or sticking his tongue out."

After Lukas passed, Clark made the decision to donate his organs to save other children.

"There is another family out there, somewhere, you know who's feeling something of what I'm feeling, somewhat, and I have the chance to make them not go through what I'm about to go through," Clark explained.

Clark was told that Lukas' organs saved three other lives, one of whom is 4-year-old Jordan Drake, who suffered from a congenital heart defect.

On January 30, 2016, three years after Lukas' death, Clark was contacted by the donor network of Arizona at Phoenix Children's Hospital with an offer to meet Drake, and Clark enthusiastically accepted.

Esther Gonzalez, Jordan's mother, admitted her daughter's life was saved by the donated heart. She said, "It's hard to describe... that she would be so selfless to be able to think of another family while she's going through her grief.

When Clark met Jordan and Gonzalez, Clark was able to listen to Lukas' heart beating in Jordan's chest.

The meeting was recorded and tears flowed freely down Clark's face as she held a hand over her mouth and listened to the sound of her son's heart.

Both Clark and Gonzalez admitted they would never forget the day they met.

"We're family now, we're friends now, our families are families, we've brought our families together," Gonzalez stated.

Clark was gifted with a teddy bear that has a recording of Lukas' heart so she can listen as often as she'd like.

Both women plan to keep in touch and meet on a regular basis.
