We ask you, urgently: don't scroll past this
Dear readers, Catholic Online was de-platformed by Shopify for our pro-life beliefs. They shut down our Catholic Online, Catholic Online School, Prayer Candles, and Catholic Online Learning Resources essential faith tools serving over 1.4 million students and millions of families worldwide. Our founders, now in their 70's, just gave their entire life savings to protect this mission. But fewer than 2% of readers donate. If everyone gave just $5, the cost of a coffee, we could rebuild stronger and keep Catholic education free for all. Stand with us in faith. Thank you.Help Now >
4-year-old asks mother heart-wrenching question about her career -'Why?'
FREE Catholic Classes
A mother who serves as a police officer shed some light on the things many of us may not really understand. As she put on her police uniform, Lydia Marquez's 4-year-old son asked "why," making her pause, wondering the same thing. Instead of answering her son and continuing on her way, she filmed it and posted it to the Internet.

MUNTINLUPA, PHILIPPINES (Catholic Online) - "I told him, 'Because Mommy cares, Mommy cares. I care,'" she said, in the video. She is aware police officers have been targets of violence but she said it is still her duty since she took an oath.
Marquez explained that every time she goes out to work, she knows there is always a chance she might return home, but she still goes.
This mother of two also reminded us that all lives matter, and sworn officers guard the lives of the people under the law. They do not care who you are, just if you need help.
"We're putting our lives on the line here. We're going to you because you need us, not knowing exactly what we're going into. People don't understand that. We don't ask that dispatcher 'Hold on, is it a black person who's calling? Is it a white person who's calling?' That doesn't matter because we don't care. We don't care at all. It's not about color. It's not about any of that. It's about the fact that all lives matter," she said.
She vowed to protect and serve all people and Marquez repeated that she still does despite the surge in recent dangers. She does it because she cares and she believes "everyone's life matters."
