MUNTINLUPA, PHILIPPINES (Catholic Online) - As a contestant on the "Amazing Chinese," a TV show equivalent to America's Got Talent in China, the young girl put five animals to sleep, making people believe she was working with a hypnotism.
She stroked each animal - a chicken, a dog, a frog, a lizard and a rabbit - before laying them on their back and made some more strokes before she lifts her hands, according to the report by The Daily Mail. Like they are in a trance, the animals did not move and just laid still after she stopped stroking.
With just five minutes of her hand strokes, all five animals appeared to be in slumber, surprising and stunning the contest judges and the audience with her one-of-a-kind performance. At the end of the stunt, she shouted which woke up the animals simultaneously. The Daily Mail explained that Jiaying first discovered her talent more than a year ago after hypnotizing a frog.
According to the experts asked by the GB Times, the trick is employing a natural reflex called "tonic immobility" or "apparent death." Under a threat of a predator, many animals will play dead by going limp with the idea that they will lose interest. This natural response of temporary paralysis caused by fear can be induced by humans to animals by holding them in a fixed position on their back or side.
