'Baby Doe's' true identity remains a mystery.

A woman walking her dog near Massachusetts' Deer Island experienced one of the most tragic discoveries in her life. The woman noticed a plastic trash bag and was curious enough to check its content. To her horror, she discovered a black-and-white-polka-dot-legging, a zebra-striped blanket and the body of a dead four-year-old girl.

Highlights

This horrific discovery made by the unnamed woman on June 25 became a mystery over who the child was, and the young girl was killed and dumped in a garbage bag. Law enforcement has been working double time to identify the little girl and figure out the reason for her death. The investigation, up to this moment, remains a mystery to authorities.

Those involved have sought help from the internet on the identification of the girl, who is now referred to as "Baby Doe." Unfortunately, no family members, relatives or even family friends have stepped forward to identify or even provide a possible lead on who the little girl might be.

"Who she is and where she's from remains a mystery to us. We urge anyone with any information on her identity to share it," Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said encouraging civilians to help in the investigation. Although no information on who the child is has surfaced, people across the country have helped by sharing the Facebook post more than 670,000 times.

However, the little progress on identifying the child remains a disappointment to the police force.

"The fact that no one has come forward is suggestive that the family or caretaker or her circle of family or friends are intentionally not providing information-for whatever reason that may be," stated State Police spokesman David Procopio. "Some people have suggested that the family could be undocumented immigrants, or that the family is somewhat complicit."

"Baby Doe's" cause of death also remains to be unknown. Investigators have ruled out the possibility of homicide, since no signs of trauma were found on her body. Toxicology tests were given to the body to determine other possible causes of death.

Police looked into the possible connection of the "Baby Doe" case with an unsolved "Baby Kate" case in Mason County Michigan. Kate has still not been found and police tried to find out any possible lead that Baby Kate might have been Baby Doe. However, DNA tests proved no connection between the two tragic tales.
