Parents lie about religion to get kids into good schools
FREE Catholic Classes
Parents have resorted into faking their religion and their addresses because of the tough competition from the growing numbers of applicants trying to get into certain good schools. A poll revealed that parents will do certain things to secure their kid's slots in their first choice schools. Aired as part of the ITV's Tonight special, the poll illustrated how parents address the preparation for their kids schooling.

MUNTINLUPA, PHILIPPINES (Catholic Online) - Part of the issue is the increasing population of pupils needing to be accommodated by schools every year. During this year alone in England, a batch of 400,000 pupils will join the 17,000 primary schools, according to the Daily Mail.
One out of five children will not be admitted to the initial school of their choice, although it was reported that majority will have their kids in a good a school around their area.
The ITV, for the special entitled "How to Get in a Good School," went and investigated the situation for Lightwood Primary School located in the West Midlands. It was cited among the 82 percent of England's schools evaluated as good or outstanding.
Just last year, 80 aspirants applied for the available 30 slots. According to the data they compiled with the poll, parents were willing to bend the truth for their kids' future at the school.
Questioning 1,000 parents, ITV found that 39 percent will have their children baptized, although they are non-believers themselves. This is because of the prevalence of reserving slots for the religious in some highly distinguished schools. There is a law that allows schools to discriminate students according to their religious affiliations.
Asking if they are guilty of going as far as lying just to get their kids in, 45 percent said they are not.
