Edmonton Catholic School remains firm on their decision that the 7-year-old transgender male-born child must use the gender-neutral washroom. However, this does not sit well with the child or her parents, as well as a school board trustee.

MUNTINLUPA, PHILIPPINES (Catholic Online) - According to reports, the mother has already filed a complaint against the school, arguing that the mental health of her daughter is being jeopardized by the board's decision.
"It's something that needs to be addressed, especially with the Catholic system," said the 7-year-old's mother.
It could take her three years to finally have an investigator assigned to her complaint against the Edmonton Catholic Schools.
She argues that to allow her transgender child in the girl's washroom poses no danger to any other person. Yet, the prohibition for the child to use the facility she identifies herself with harms her daughter's mental health.
According to the mother, they found out about their child's gender identification last September. The 7-year-old clarified it to them by telling her mom she felt like a girl.
In a CBC Canada news post, a doctor reportedly diagnosed the child with "gender dysphoria," a gender identity disorder that has no sexual component and child did not undergo a physical sex change.
The mother approached everyone from the school principal up to the education minister, but the decision of not letting her daughter use the girl's bathroom remains.
"I am not resigning over this social justice issue. This little girl needs advocates. She needs people like us, trustees, to stand up for her," said Patricia Grell, the school trustee who is vocally in support of the child's welfare.
She was concerned over the mental well-being the child is struggling with due to the decision. Grell said she knew that her resignation was called by the Debbie Engel, the board chair, through a TV report.
