Celebrate all women this Mother's Day
FREE Catholic Classes
Coming Sunday is a very special day for mothers. Mother's Day is near and there are many reasons why we all should celebrate this day. The holiday doesn't necessarily need to be limited to only the beautiful women who gave birth, but let us extend the celebration to all the women of the world, for they are all mothers at heart.

"I believe that all of us are called to mother another. We mother the world that shows up at our doorstep whether we call it mothering or not. We mother whether we're married or we've ever borne down in the battle cry of birth or not. We mother because we're called to it - this flinging a life preserver to a drowning sister, child, college student, teenager, grandmother with the soft wafer thin skin, or that kid who always shows up at your backdoor the second you've turned off the ignition. We mother because we can't not."
Author Lisa Jo wrote about the prevailing emptiness a woman experiences from not being able to have children through her post "Let's Celebrate All Women This Mother's Day." She writes to remind all women that we are all mothers, for being one is a separate mission.
A second author, Holley Gerth looks at how Eve was venerated: the mother of all living. From the Biblical description, she realizes that everyone is a mother, not just for bearing a physical body in her womb.
"On Mother's and Father's Day, for those who are desiring children, it's important for church leadership to recognize that those are people who are hurting in their congregation," shared the author of "Dancing Upon Barren Land," Leslie Westfall, in response to what the church can do.
According to an article from Crosswalk.com, religious leaders can remind their members of this with Matthew 12 as Jesus confirms that being a mother or a father is beyond bloodline.
"While Jesus was still talking to the crowd, his mother and brothers stood outside, wanting to speak to him. Someone told him, 'Your mother and brothers are standing outside, wanting to speak to you.'
He replied to him, 'Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?' Pointing to his disciples, he said, 'Here are my mother and my brothers. For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.'"
Happy Mother's Day, everyone!
