Officers responded to a mysterious woman's voice and remain baffled as to its origin

18-month-old Lily Groesbeck, rescued from the wreck of a submerged vehicle earlier this week, is reportedly making great improvement and remains stable.

LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - Late Friday night Lily and her mother, Lynn, were traveling home after an evening at Lynn's parent's house. Police believe Lynn hit a cement barrier on a bridge and tilted over into the river, about 50 miles from Salt Lake City, Utah.

A fisherman found their wrecked vehicle around noon on Saturday; 14 hours after the initial accident.

Light a prayer candle for Lily and her family during this tragic time--

For 14 hours, Lily hung upside down, strapped in her car seat directly above freezing, rapid water overnight.

The responding police officers claim they heard a women's voice calling for their help as they approached the vehicle. With all their strength, the four officers flipped the red Dodge sedan back over.

Lily was the only passenger left alive. It is believed her mother passed away the night of the accident; she could not possibly have been the one calling for help.

"For two nights I've laid awake trying to figure out exactly what it could be. All I know is it was there, we all heard it," Spanish Fork Police Officer Tyler Beddoes said in Daily Mail. "It was extra motivation."

All four of the officers responded to the mysterious voice, believing it to be a person, and were shocked when they realized Lily was the only one alive and she had been unconscious.

With no skid marks and no sign of mechanical failure, investigators don't know exactly what caused the accident; toxicology reports are being made to rule out drug or alcohol influence.

"It's heartbreaking. Was she crying most the night?" said Beddoes. "It's a miracle... She was needed for sure elsewhere."

After a firefighter cut the car seat straps, releasing Lily, the officers on site formed a line in the river and "handed the cold girl to one another until she was on the shoreline and in the emergency workers' arms," according to Daily Mail. She was rushed to Mountain View Hospital and then flown to Primary Children's Hospital in critical condition.

"Her improvement is astounding. Right now she's watching 'Dora (the Explorer)' and singing '(The) Wheels on the Bus' with Grandpa. She is smiling and laughing for family members. We're blown away by Lily's progress and so grateful to her rescuers," Lily's family said, according to CNN.
