LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - Giving back to others is an amazing feeling. Your heart expands and your mind is put to ease knowing you made a difference.
Be it the local food bank, a big-named charity or the homeless man on the corner, your donation will not be in vain.
Make a difference in the Catholic community
It is acceptable to give back in any way; even if it is just a dollar here or there.
So many people in the world suffer from poor living conditions. They don't have clean water, they go without proper meals or they are impaled with illness and disease.
Look into your heart and decide what matters most to you. Is it education, the wildlife, politics, or world hunger?
Do you believe big-named charities, like Red Cross and Stop Hunger Now, distribute your money more effectively? Or would you rather give a can of food to the local food bank and be able to see it put use right before your eyes?
No matter the situation or circumstance, giving is good in all shapes and form.
Roughly 1.2 billion people live below the international poverty line of $1.25 a day, and more than 17,000 children under age 5 die daily of avoidable diseases and malnutrition, according to Catherine Newman's article "The No-Regrets Approach to Donating Money."
There's no need to feel guilty if it isn't much; every bit counts to someone who has nothing.
"Give generously to him and do so without a grudging heart; then because of this the Lord your God will bless you in all your work and in everything you put your hand to:" Deuteronomy 15:10.
