Dear readers, Catholic Online was de-platformed by Shopify for our pro-life beliefs. They shut down our Catholic Online, Catholic Online School, Prayer Candles, and Catholic Online Learning Resources essential faith tools serving over 1.4 million students and millions of families worldwide. Our founders, now in their 70's, just gave their entire life savings to protect this mission. But fewer than 2% of readers donate. Pro-life sonogram event in DC shows babies, not cells
FREE Catholic Classes
A broad coalition of supporters of the Right to Life groups performed a series of live ultrasounds onstage in the Congressional Auditorium on Thursday. Sadly, only four lawmakers showed up.

WASHINGTON DC (Catholic Online) - All 535 members of Congress were invited to witness one pregnant woman after another receiving sonograms. Each sonogram showed a procession of babies growing in the wombs of their loving mothers on a large screen.
The event is meant to initiate the "Voices From the Womb" tour, a nationwide effort to connect with women across the country and to promote legislation that would have women obtain sonograms of their babies before proceeding with abortions.
All 50 states have, or will soon have, legislation requiring that women obtain sonograms of prior to obtaining abortions. It is believed that the sonograms will help women to realize that they are carrying a baby, and not merely a collection of random cells that can be easily discarded.
The sonograms would also allow a mother to hear her baby's heartbeat.
Sonograms have been effective in convincing women that the child they carry is a human being, every bit as lovable and entitled to life as they are.
Abortion supporters are critical of the idea. Some doctors argue that the laws aren't needed because women can already choose to have a sonogram and listen to the heartbeat before an abortion. They defend current practice by saying women who come to clinics have already decided to have abortions and that they already understand the implication of their decision.
This begs the question, why would the statistics show that sonograms make a difference if what they say about women who choose abortions is true?
Renée Doyle, legislative assistant to representative Michele Bachmann, who is also a prominent Republican presidential candidate, had this to say, "The beauty of this bill is that the image will speak for itself, and once a mother sees the image there is an immediate connection. And anecdotally and statistically, you can see that a mother will choose life, and when a mother chooses life, her heart changes to, and when her heart changes she becomes a proponent of life."
It is hoped that as Voices From the Womb tours the country, the movement will help moms and moms to be, to realize that life begins at conception and that there can only be one choice.
That choice is life.
