REDACCION CENTRAL (ACI Prensa) - En el 383 el emperador Teodosio I el Grande llamo a Arsenio, luego de ser recomendado por el Papa San Damaso I, para que sea el profesor de sus dos hijos. Durante diez anos este santo vivio en el palacio del emperador educando a sus herederos, Arcadio y Honorio.

A la edad de 40, luego de una profunda crisis espiritual, la tradicion cuenta que Dios le dijo: "Apartate del trato con la gente y ve a la soledad". De este modo abandono Constantinopla, se embarco secretamente en direccion a Alejandria y fue al desierto de Scetis.

Al llegar al monasterio del desierto cerca del ano 400, el prior lo sometio a duras pruebas para comprobar su vocacion y humildad. Después de demostrar que era apto para esa vida de humillacion y mortificacion fue admitido para la vida monastica.

Alli San Arsenio se hizo muy conocido por todos por sus penitencias extraordinarias: pasaba toda la noche en oracion, ayunaba y trabajaba arduamente como mortificacion. También se le conocio por sus dichos o frases breves.

En una ocasion le comunicaron que un senador le habia dejado en herencia una gran fortuna. El santo renuncio a todo a favor de los pobres y exclamo: "Antes de que Ă©l muriera en su cuerpo, yo mori en mis ambiciones y avaricias. No quiero riquezas mundanas que me impidan adquirir las riquezas del cielo".
