Archaeologists discover building near Jerusalem

An amazing archaeological discovery is being celebrated for further proving the historical accuracy of the Bible.

King David first appears in the Bible as the young shepherd who kills the giant, Goliath.

LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - Historians believe they have uncovered a building from part of the Biblical Kingdom. The building was found about 30-miles from Jerusalem and according to the co-head of the archaeological dig, Professor Avraham Faust, it is clearly "part of the events in the Bible ascribed to the Kingdom of David."

At the site, hundreds of ancient artifacts were unearthed, including several arrowheads, pottery vessels, and loom weights. The archaeologists explained burrowing mole rats brought earth to the surface, providing them with an idea of what was buried below ground, according to the Daily Star.

"We, of course, did not find any artifacts that said, 'King David' or 'King Solomon' but we discovered site signs of a social transformation in the region which are consistent with a change from Canaanite culture to a Judean culture," explained Professor Faust to Breaking Israel News.

"Since it took place at a time we believed the Kingdom of David began to spread into this region, it is clear this building was part of the events in the Bible ascribed to the Kingdom of David."

King David's story in the Bible begins with him seen as a young shepherd who kills Goliath. David then becomes a favorite to King Saul and eventually, David takes the crown and conquers Jerusalem. David is believed to be an ancestor of Jesus, existing around 1000BC.

According to Professor Faust, the discovered building is expected to be from the city of Eglon, which is one of the five cities who fought the Israelites.

"The structure was excavated, almost in its entirety, and was composed of a large courtyard with rooms on three side," he stated.

Typically, the historical accuracy of the Bible is questioned by historians and scientists who feel most of the events lack any kind of historical evidence. However, tangible evidence proving details of the Bible are continuously being unearthed. For example, inscribed stones containing phrases referencing David have previously been discovered.

It's difficult for nonbelievers and skeptics to hold faith in the Word of God, but for us, there's no doubt at all.
