LOS ANGELES, CA (California Network) - On January 7, a worshipper at the Church of the Holy Archangel Michael saw a tear glistening under the left eye of the Virgin Mary on her icon. He called for the priest who obtained some wool and dried the tear. Putting the wet cloth to his nose, he said it smelled like myrrh.

The priest, Fr. Boban, remained with several parishioners for much of the day. They watched as the icon continued to weep.

Local Church officials were called and the head of Macedonia's Church, Archbishop Veljanovski spent time in prayer before the icon. Afterwards, he declared it to be a miracle of God.

The church is investigating the miracle.

Locals are concerned the miracle is a warning of a catastrophe. Historically, apparitions of the Virgin Mary have delivered warnings to people, calling them to conversion.

Our Lady may have appeared in the area before. In 1981, the Virgin Mary is said to have appeared in  Medjugorjie, 200 miles to the northwest. In those apparitions, the Virgin Mary said that God exists, and that anyone who wants to enjoy the blessings and fullness of God must return to Him.

The tears have the scent of myrrh.

According to Pope Francis the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith has reached a conclusion, still hasn't released it.  Many Catholics agree that something is happening at Medjugorjie. A great number of miracles have been reported at the site.

At this time, it is impossible to say anything conclusively about the weeping icon or what it means. For now, the question is left to individual faith. But do we need a sign to believe? Do we need a special revelation to understand Mary's message to us, which has always been clear? Our Lady has only asked one thing of us, that is for the conversion of our hearts.

Worshipers worry that the weeping image is a sign of a catastrophe to come.

Regardless of what people in Macedonia believe, let us return to confession, pray the Rosary, then perform acts of charity and kindness towards our neighbors. Only by living as faithful Christians can we assure our protection against all trials that may come.
